November is National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan designated November as National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month stating, “The fight against Alzheimer’s disease needs many allies. I salute the many Americans who are working for increased public awareness of this baffling disorder and the scientists whose research holds the promise of hope.”

A little over ten years later he would announce his own affliction with Alzheimer’s and note, “Unfortunately, as Alzheimer’s disease progresses, the family often bears a heavy burden.”

November is also Family Caregivers Month, helping to shine a light on the amazing efforts more than 65 million Americans provide every year as unpaid caregivers.
