GTX Corp Supports National Family Caregivers Month

November is National Family Caregivers Month, with this year’s theme, “Caregiving Around the Clock”, holding special significance to those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. The stress of caregiving for persons with dementia has been shown to impact a person’s immune system for up to three years after their caregiving ends, increasing their chances of developing a chronic illness themselves. Among the largest causes of stress for these caregivers is fear of the person they care for wandering and becoming lost, with 60% of those afflicted becoming lost at least once, and 70% of those becoming lost 3 or more times during the progression of the disease.  There are currently more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, projected to more than triple, to more than 16 million, by 2050. GTX Corp is committed to supporting caregivers, of those both living at home and in senior housing communities, by providing “peace of mind” […]

Dementia Study Report- Reaction from GTX CEO

“We were disheartened to see that the recent Eli Lilly Phase 3 clinical trials of a drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease has ended in failure,” stated GTX Corp. CEO, Patrick Bertagna. (Read the article on CNN here) “We all hope and pray for a cure to be found for all dementia. Unfortunately, we have to deal with the dangers of wandering until medical science can develop effective treatment, which is one of many reasons why GTX remains fully committed to providing innovative monitoring and recovery solutions to keep you connected to who and what matters most.”

Parents! Join in a Medical Research Survey About Autism

GTX Corp has been in the business of developing wandering assistive technology for over 10 years, and we know that wandering, particularly by children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disorders, is a serious safety issue and stressor upon families and communities.  It is estimated that more than 250,000 children with disabilities wander away from adult supervision each year.  Few researchers have looked at this major issue, and there has been little focus on prevention measures and the impact that wandering has on families.  Now, the Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York is conducting a major national study about wandering, and we encourage all of our friends who are parents or guardians of children with Autism to participate! The more research that is done to gather information about wandering, the better we can all work towards innovation in wandering prevention, monitoring solutions and child safety. It takes just a few minutes to complete the anonymous, on-line questionnaire.   If enough families complete the Cohen Children’s […]
